Do's and Don'ts with Time Based Media
- Keep the user at the center. If you have a lengthy video ad showing Nike shoes, describe the video as one would perceive it. For example - "A man in his 30s running on a track with Nike shoes." vs. "A man in his 30s, running with Nike shoes that are glistening in the moonlight due to perfect and sublime craftsmanship. He must really love those Nike shoes. If you want to be like him, you should also buy a pair of these Nike shoes." The latter example is marketing-focused, and not user-focused. Be user-focused.
- Don't place descriptions as alt text or longdesc (I'm being an HTML nerd here) for the transcriptions. These should be resolved for brief explanations for brief videos. Again, simply put the user in the center.
